Left Don Muang (Bangkok, Thailand) early this morning. Scattered clouds, excellent weather with a slight headwind at FL330. FSX ATC got all screwed up and had me circling VTBD before I forced a direct to waypoint in the GPS. Obviously I still don't have that monster figured out completely. I did learn that you can't fly SIDs or STARs with FSX (or any Microsoft ATC) because they ignore them completely. What I am going to try is to leave the SID/STAR waypoints off of the flight plan and do a simple point to point using VORs, then turn ATC off upon arrival and fly the STAR the way it's supposed to be flown. Coming into Taipai (Chiang Kai Shek International - RCTP), the ATC had me descending into the surrounding mountains (see photo in the photo section for terrain). Weather was good at RCTP for ILS Rwy 6 with a stiff crosswind landing. Two pictures in the Photo section.
I think There was a one time someone putting out a gauge FMS that would do point a to point b. and also had pre programed Sids and Stars. It been a few years I know I bought one way back for FS98 and also some of the cockpit builders have hardware for one. That may be worth looking into Mike I do a search and see what options I find.

Thanks, Murph. I don't have any problem finding SID/STARs, just having FS ATC recognizing them. You can force the GPS to divert to an approach, but the inbound ATC directions will literally kill you if you follow them in bad weather. That's precisely why SID/STARs are used. I seem to recall that gauge as well, but FS98 is on my dormant computer.
